Holidays put consumer mood on hold

February 23, 2010 - The end of the New Year holidays seemed to dampen the mood among Ukrainians. In January 2010, the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) continued to rise, but an almost insignificant 0.8pp to 74.3. These are the results of January wave of the regular consumer confidence survey in Ukraine, a joint project between GfK Ukraine and the International Centre for Policy Studies. more >>

Results of GfK TEMAX® Ukraine for the fourth quarter 2009: Market growth continues

February 22, 2010 - The technical consumer goods market showed positive dynamics for the second period in a row and reached the highest amount for 2009. However, in comparison with previous periods it is still discouraging and the fourth quarter was definitely worse than expected. Sales decreased in all market segments with IT sector development certainly exhibiting an above average performance. Again, the sector with the largest sales drop was telecommunica-tion, which also showed the worst annual dynamics as well. Several product groups demonstrated positive growth rates, the most remarkable among them being laptops and smartphones. The last quarter of 2009 showed normal market seasonality and deceleration of sales erosion in all sectors with the exception of Major Domestic Appliances. more >>

Apple App Store leads for mobile but market still open

February 16, 2010 - We often seem to think that the Apple App Store has a dominant market position for mobile devices, helped in no small part by the extensive press coverage it seems to attract. Recent research by GfK Technology (1,000 online interviews conducted in January 2010) suggests, however, that the app store market is in reality more varied, with a wide range of stores competing for business. more >>

Share of mobile users continues to grow

February 11, 2010 - During the fourth quarter of 2009, quantity of mobile users grew up to 80% of total Ukrainian population over 16 years old, which is 7 p.p. more than in the Q4’2008. In the fourth quarter of 2009, share of users of fixed-line phones was 57%. 77% of Ukrainians without fixed-line phones at home obtained mobile connection. 10% of population does not use any type of phone connection, and this indicator is 3 p.p. lower than in the Q4`2008. That is proved by the results of regular survey on telecommunications markets conducted by GfK Ukraine. more >>

European consumers show differing ways of saving

February 08, 2010 - The GfK Association has investigated consumer saving behavior against the backdrop of the current economic crisis. While consumers in Germany, the UK,France and Austria are trying to reduce their expenditure in many areas, day-to-day saving is currently not such an urgent concern for survey respondents in Spain and Poland. In these two countries, almost one in three of those questioned said they were doing nothing at all to reduce their household budget. more >>
